Last year we rode the 2009 spec machine and were suitably impressed and reported it as such. This year there have been several engineering and ergonomic improvements that make this already delicious Bavarian that much more desirable, it also includes the supply of a competition muffler as standard.

Competitively priced at $12,850* AUD ($16,033 NZ), representing a price increase of just $400 AUD ($499 NZ) Considering the MY2010 model arrives equipped with the standard ADR approved factory muffler (fitted) plus the competition muffler (supplied separately)

The competition silencer complies with FIM regulations and is around one kilogram lighter than the ADR pipe and reduces the G 450 X's dry weight in competition conditions to 110 kilograms. Makeing it not only one of the better priced offerings on the market in it's class but also one of the lightest. The header is made from durable Stainnless steel to reduce noise,

Amongst the modifications the MY2010 BMW G 450 X received updated ECU mapping for improved fuel consumption (4.3 l/100km versus 4.5 l/100km @ 90km/h) and a reduction in engine brake torque. This adds to the already impressive fuel range from the 8litre tank.

The chassis has also been slightly tweaked. The offset of the front axle has been reduced by 2.5 millimetres, resulting in more neutral handling with optimum directional stability. The new upside-down forks with updated internal settings that have a stronger damping progression for improved tracking and control in rough terrain.  The linkage free rear shock has also received updated settings.

Last year we mentioned that the seat was a little on the hard side the must have been listeneing fresh with a new seat design filled with soft foam and also features an enlarged radius in the upper thigh area, provides the rider additional comfort and control over the bike.

In its appearance, the 2010 BMW G 450 X further characterises the successful factory racing models of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport team, with matching, gold-anodised forks.

So would we buy one again the answer is definitly. This bike is a dream to ride, handles and tractors well. Confidence inspiring and with the changes over last years model certainly worth a second look.

Until August 31 2010 you can get a $1500 instore bonus or price reduction on the bike itself. Plus a further $1100 dollars worth of gear, an Alloy bash plate, a BMW function neck brace and Acerbis hand guards. Don't forget the competition muffler and combined makes the MY2020 BMW G 450 a very attractive pacakge indeed.

See you on the track....Phelpsy
