The Yilgarn Rallye will not be held during 2010 and the next event will now be staged in 2011.
Among the reasons for not holding the event in 2010 are:
- Clashes with other WA rally navigation and off-road racing events
- Additional time is required to maximise route selection and landholder access permissions in order to ensure that the next Yilgarn Rallye is a full success.
While the 2009 Yilgarn Rallye was in many ways a success for an inaugural event there where also a number of teething issues that arose, notably; the late denial of land access permission for the first day of the proposed course.
Discussions are currently underway with the Southern Cross MCC to host the event again next year. Without the fantastic support and involvement of the SXMC club last year the event could not have occurred and it is anticipated that the SXMCC will play a critical role going forward with the event into the future as well.
At this stage it would appear that the best timing for the event in 2011 will be the end of June.
A management committee is currently being established to ensure the full and proper planning and development of the event to make it the success in 2011 that it deserves to have. A number of the members on the committee are also involved in the Australasian Safari so that experience will directly translate across to the Yilgarn Rallye.
An event such as this takes a significant amount of planning and time to get it right and we will certainly be taking on board the lessons learnt from the 2009 event.
Now that the Australasian Safari is confirmed to be held in Western Australia for the next 3 years, there is the great opportunity to firmly establish the Yilgarn Rallye on the WA motor sport calendar and as an integral part of the cross country rallye racing sport in Australia. The event serves as a great spring board for those wishing to compete in the Safari and also provides another opportunity to competitors to use both the equipment and skills required for cross country navigation rallye racing. As stated last year the intention is to establish the event on a long term basis so that it emulates the success of the Condo 750 in Condobolin NSW which is about to host their 22nd rally !
The Yilgarn Rallye website will be updated with a new look and new information over the coming 2 to 3 months.
In addition a Facebook site has now been established which will have regular updates on the progress of the event between now and when it is held in 2011.
There will however be two off-road rally/e navigation events in WA for 2010.
1) The Quit Forest Moto Rallye - April 16, 17, 18 as a part of the ARC rally championship round. This event now has formal approval from both CAMS and MA, for more details soon stayed tuned to http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ight=RallyMoto
2) The Australasian Safari during 17 - 25 September 2010, further details are expected soon www.australasiansafari.com.au
For all those riders who entered in the 2009 Yilgarn Rallye you will still be eligible for an entry discount for the 2011 event.
While it is a shame to have to postpone the next event, you can be assured that the Yilgarn Rallye will happen in 2011 !!!
So please stay tuned for further news and developments during 2010.
The rallye WILL be bigger and better for the extra time to set it up.
Thank you for your support of the event in 2009 and we hope to see you again at the 2011 Yilgarn Rallye.
