Locally based riders Dylan Rose and Sky Mackie have set their sights on strong performances when they compete in this weekend’s (October 24 and 25) 2009 NSW Minikhana State Championship at Gwandalan on the Central Coast of NSW.

With this year’s NSW State Championship being hosted by the Junior Trials Minicycle Club, which is based at Gwandalan, both Rose and Mackie are very excited about competing for victory on home soil in their respective classes.
Rose will line up in the Senior 85cc and 150cc class in what is going to be his 10th year of Minikhana competition and this is going to be his final ever event. The 16-year-old will now be turning his concentration to Enduro competition.
“The NSW State Championship is going to be my final Minikhana event and I hope to go out a winner to complete was has been 10 wonderful years involvement with Minikhana,” said the former multiple NSW State Championship holder. “Minikhana has taught me so much about motorcycle riding and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn skills from a young age. Apart from the learning aspect you build lifelong friendships and that is probably one of the best things about Minikhana.”
Fellow Central Coast resident and current Junior Trials Club Champion Sky Mackie, who also recently wrapped up the NSW Interclub Series for her class, is another rider aiming for a successful NSW State Championship weekend.
Competing in the Mini Wheel A Grade class, the 12-year-old finished second in last year’s NSW State Championship and this weekend wants to go one better.
“Contending for the NSW State Championship win is the main goal for the weekend,” she said. “I have had a really good year so far and winning the NSW State Championship would be the icing on the cake.”
Mackie has been competing in Minikhana for nearly four years and thoroughly enjoys the challenge that it brings and friendships she has made.
In excess of 120 young riders are primed to converge on the Central Coast venue for this year’s NSW State Championship where they will be put through a range of challenging courses in order to test their balance, concentration and time.
A total of 10 courses for the NSW State Championship includes; Minicross, Ring Bending, Slow, Non Foot Clover and Looping.
The overall NSW State Championship winners in each class are to be decided by the rider that is the most consistent over each of the courses. The riders with the most ribbons from each course will take out the overall win in their respective class.
Classes of competition for the NSW State Championship, which are broken up into A, B, and C Grades, include: Senior Combined Big Wheel 85cc / 100cc 2-stroke or 150cc 4-Stroke, Junior Big Wheel 85/100cc 2-stroke or 150cc 4-stroke, Mini Wheel, 85cc 2-stroke or 150cc 4-stroke and 65cc 2-stroke and 50cc Auto Division 2. There will be demonstrations for both the 50cc Auto Division 1 and Nippers classes.
Riders that compete in the Minikhana range from the age as young as four years old right through to 17 years of age.
Competition on both days of the NSW State Championship begins from 9.30am.
