Cold and damp conditions greeted championship racers for Rd8 at Broadford on the weekend. This proved to make conditions testing and very demanding on what was one of toughest yet enjoyable course’s laid out yet.
Hosting club M.C.R.C.V had their workers out 1 hr before sunrise to put the track back together after high winds and rain sweeped the area over night. None of this was to take the shine off the fantastic display of racing in all classes on a track that had all riders on there game.
Pro-class saw an enthralling battle for the lead over the entire duration of the race between Alpine Motorcycle’s Yamaha young gun Mitch Harper, Husqvarna’s Jehi Willis and Hands-on Kawasaki’s Todd Stephenson.
From the drop of the aussie flag it was 17 year old Harper who holeshotted and took the hard chargers with him, Willis and Stephenson keeped the Yamaha kid in check all day, lap after lap, every lap closer. It was Harper by the barest of margins over the finish line in the end cracking it for his first ever outright win, an ever determined Willis 2nd and Stephenson 3rd.
The expert classes where dominated by the usual suspect’s and the winners finishing again strongly inside the top ten outright. The fight for a pro class number for 2010 is the hottest it’s been in years, the young talent that is coming through at expert level is testament to a strong junior state championship where a lot of these racers have come from.
E2 was dominated by Christensen’s Yamaha rider Dan Milner who still sits 2nd outright for 2009.
Hands-on Kawasaki racer Dale Martin who also sits inside the top 10 once again ruled E1.
Andrew Jackson owns E35, these 3 riders are having a fantastic season so far.
Alex Bolton on the Bolton’s Motorcycles KTM 250f proved to be the fastest intermediate, this class is boasting enormous talent that will no doubt come through at the top level.
Tym Davey won clubman 1. Clubman 2 went to Tom Hogan and C3 had Brent Martin taking his first win for the season. Gerald Deppleler had a win in the masters.
Vet’s O’35 saw Lee Pearsall take 1st position and Brett Wiltshire held on to take out the Vet’s O’40 while our newest class “Womans” was class act Felicia Fergie enjoying another well earnt win.
The juniors are simply dominated by Geoff Taylor Yamaha rider Alex Stephenson who again took it outright and his class win.
Christensen’s Yamaha racer Travis Cooper once again stood on top of the J4 podium.
Joel Pay took J2 and Tom Mason led the J1 class across the finish line.
The series now heads north to Wedderburn on the 25th and 26th of July for a
cross-country and Sprint race format for the weekend.
