Round two of the South Australian Motocross Championships headed south on the weekend to Mount Gambier. The bad weather held off long enough for the race action and the track was a perfect play ground for the team to do battle. The ups were two class wins between Damon Hill (Yamaha Pitmans) and Mitchell Norris (Cowley’s Motorcycles) and the downs of Daniel Banks (Bikes ‘N’ Gear) braking his arm.

Damon Hill is really going from strength to strength aboard his YZ125 and duplicated his round one performance winning all three moto wins going unchallenged throughout the day. Hill got great starts and took charge of each race in the first couple laps and simply motored away from the field.
“I was excited coming here to race today, my Dunlop tyres got three great starts and I rode strong all day,” said an enthused Hill.
The other class winner was Mitchell Norris on board his YZ250F in the 13-16 years age group. Mitchell again showed his strength and put together three strong moto wins and proved his pace is up matching his lap times with the senior lites field. He went virtually unchallenged all day and didn’t put a foot wrong along the way.
“I felt great today, I focused on my starts this weekend and that helped get me out front from the first lap. My bike is running awesome and my fitness feels real good,” said Mitch after a day’s racing.
Izak Maule (Northern Motorcycles) again showed improvement from the previous round. With heat races coming to this round, Izak had three strong heats to easily qualify him through to the final with 4-6-4 results. With the heat races comes only a one off final which unfortunately Izak found himself in amongst a huge first turn pile up, he managed to get out of it fairly quickly and started working away at salvaging some points. He worked hard the entire race and ended up a creditable 12th place.
“I am a bit disappointed with the result today, my DB Race Suspension worked great and I’m taking the positive of having the 4th fastest lap time in the field,” said youngster Izak after his day.
Daniel Banks is having a year to forget up til now, after coming back from his broken collarbone and showing he has what it takes at round 1, he has now suffered a broken bone in his arm (Radius). The amazing thing was that he didn’t even crash, he just over jumped a big tabletop and landed right into a braking bump. Dan tried to carry on racing but was unable to hang on properly.
“I am very disappointed. I was just starting to feel good again after my collarbone and now this happens." said a dejected Banksy on his return to the track after racing had finished.
“After scans I may only be sidelines for 2-3 weeks, my surgeon will confirm this later in the week.”
The Team will head to Whyalla Motorcycle Club on June 6 & 7 for Rd three of the SA Motocross Titles.
