Motorcycling Australia (MA) is pleased to announce the names of the Wellard ISDE Australian Team Manager and two Team Assistants who will be heading to the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Portugal.
Tim Shearer will fill the role of Team Manager with Tony Bishop and Don Aitkins taking on the Team Assistant roles.
Shearer, a long standing member of the MA Enduro Commission, brings a wealth of experience to the role and said that a large part of his role will be helping some of the newer members to the team adjust to being overseas.
“For some riders who have never been overseas before, or are riding in their first international event, it can be a big shock,” Shearer said.
“We’ll be trying to make it as comfortable as possible for the new riders and helping them adjust to the difficult conditions.
As Team Manager, Shearer’s role will also include the provision of technical advice and support throughout the whole event, as well as having a hands-on role in the running on each of the Trophy teams.
“Australia is the only country that offers support for every rider it sends to the ISDE – from the Trophy team riders through to each of the club riders - no other country provides this level of support and we are well recognised and held in high regard as a result.”
“This year we have appointed two Team Assistants as official members of the touring party, and this demonstrates MA’s continued commitment to the discipline of Enduro at the highest level.”
Shearer also said that having a new naming-rights sponsor on-board will add a new dimension to the team in terms of professionalism, and hopes that the
Wellard partnership will drive the team toward greater success.
“We’ve got a pretty good outfit and it’s great to have an outside sponsor come on-board.
“Wellard are fitting in well with us and by working together we can get some solid results over there so I can’t wait!”
The 2009 Wellard Australian ISDE Squad will compete in Figueira da Foz Portugal from 12-17 October and will now attend a training camp to be held on 18-20 May at Abernathy in New South Wales as preparation.
