Toronto, Canada - With just four rounds remaining in the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, defending World/AMA Supercross Champion Chad Reed has maintained an eight point lead in the series after finishing second at Toronto’s Rogers Centre tonight.
The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider got a good start in the ‘Main Event’ and was fifth into the first corner. By the completion of Lap 1 Reed was second and over the ensuing laps had his work cut out for him to keep the pressure on championship rival James Stewart whilst trying to find optimal lines through the tough track.
Unable to get into a completely comfortable groove on the rutted and rocky track Reed acknowledged a number of small errors allowed Stewart to slip away and take the win.
"It was a really difficult track tonight, the ruts were gnarly, and underneath the dirt and the ruts there was a ton of rocks,” Reed said.
“I gave it all I had out there. I just made way too many mistakes and (James) slipped away.
“There were a couple of times I nearly went over the bars but managed to save it, I had to back off and just settle. We all know the math if second is going to give me the win then I will play it safe,” Reed recognised.
The series heads to a new venue next weekend with the 14th round of the series to be contested at Jacksonville’s Municipal Stadium.
