Ravenshoe Motorcycle Club ran a very successful 2 Day Motorcycle Event at the popular Milne Property at Wondecla over the weekend of the 29th & 30th October. Dubbed the “King of the Off Road” the event ran as Off Road Sprints on Saturday and a Natural Terrain Moto-x on the Sunday.

Over 80 riders, both male and female, fronted to compete in this new exciting format coming from as far away as Weipa in the North and Townsville to the South. With 5 adult classes and 5 junior classes we were able to see competitors as young as 8 year old Seth Maurer from Miriwinni, up to riders in their 50’s having “a go”. Some weren’t there to win but to just have some fun. Unfortunately some riders missed out as we had to cut a few classes this year to ensure we stayed within our Tablelands Regional Council noise curfew on this property of racing only between 9.00am to 4.00pm.
Saturday’s racing was an Off Road Sprint where riders competed against the clock, racing around a 6 to 10 minute bush loop through trees, gullies, rocks and logs. Accumulated times from the five sprint runs held throughout the day decided the winner for the day in each class. Overall and A Grade Open winner for the day was Dominic Hoyle, closely followed by Paul Byrnes and then Rick Buckley in the A Grade Lites. Star performer for the day though was 13 year old Australian moto-x champion Wilson Todd, who in his first off road event, finished 5th outright, beating most of the adult riders in the process.

Sunday was a Natural Terrain Moto-x held on the undulating forest setting of the Milne property moto-x track. This is one of the best Natural Terrain Moto-x tracks North Queensland has to offer and I’m sure every rider enjoyed after the water truck settled some of the dust we saw in the practice session.

This time the riders raced against each other in their respective classes, completing three rounds of 4 lap races. Kris Holding took honours in the A Grade Open Class and the Over 35 years Veterans class, while Paul Byrnes dominated the A Grade Lites Class and in the process taking the overall win for the weekend.
