The first of five consecutive weekends of fast-paced Super X competition gets underway this weekend in Melbourne, and the Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing team riders are determined to make immediate impact in both premier classes.

The injection of new talent in the form of Gavin Faith will bolster the factory Honda team’s Lites presence, but it is continuity within the Open class ranks that it hopes will pay dividends.
Todd Waters and Cheyne Boyd have wasted little time since the conclusion of the outdoor championship, changing up their training and riding routines to factor in the tighter and more confined layouts and formats featured in Super X.
Waters is confident he can build on his 2010 placing of 8th after his campaign was cut short.
“I’m feeling really good heading into the first round, I’ve come down to Melbourne a week early to do some testing with Honda to make sure I’m feeling as comfortable as I can on it before I start racing,” said Waters.
“For the last few weeks I’ve been staying with my parents in Cairns and getting in as much riding and training as possible – I’ve mixed it a lot of hiking and kayaking to make sure I am as fit as possible.
“Super X is only a short series this year and it will fly by. I’m ready to get started and race hard.”
Boyd’s focus switched straight to Supercross following a motocross season that he admitted was tough by his own standards.
“I had a week off and then got straight back into testing and riding after setting up my Supercross track,” said Boyd.
“The bike feels really good which was my main priority. I wanted to get my bike setup well and running how I wanted it before the first Super X round which I believe I have done.”
The Melbourne event will see both classes tackle a double-header format in the final – 2 x 10 (Opens) and 8 (Lites) lap races with a four-minute break in between.
