Reigning AMA Pro Motocross Champion, Chad Reed has kept the momentum going in his title defence, finishing second overall in the Freestone National at Wortham, Texas and extended his lead in the 2010 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
Despite being mid pack off the start in the opening 30-minute moto Reed put on a charge through the second half of the race, to finish second.
He finished third In Moto 2, opting to err on the side of caution and ensure consistent results in the extremely hot conditions.
Reed took 42 points from today’s event and now sits 11 points clear of today’s overall winner Ryan Dungey in the championship standings.
"I think today was a very successful day,” Reed said "Although we didn’t reach the top step of the podium we took home valuable points and learnt a lot about the bike
"My track at home is very similar to what we raced on today and I have been having some issues there that I haven't experienced anywhere else. With today’s track having similar characteristics it allowed us to confirm our thoughts and move forward yet again.
“Physically it was an exhausting day with the temperature so with 20 races still to go in the championship I really had no interest in pushing too hard and making a mistake.
“I was riding well within my ability and that was still enough to take second,” Reed concluded.
The third round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship will be held at High Point Raceway in Pennsylvania on Saturday June
The 450cc class will be aired in Australia live on Fuel TV from 5.00am (Sunday June 13).
