Day two of this weekend’s Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC), being held near Moruya on the NSW South Coast, has been cancelled due to a severe storm being forecast for the area.

Yamaha AORC coordinator, Denise Hore, said organisers made the call tonight due to heavy rain, winds and possible flooding expected for the area later tonight and tomorrow.

“We have to cross a wide creek to get into the property at Buckenboura,” Mrs Hore said.

“The creek is already high, and it comes up really quickly.

“It’s a duty of care issue. A lot of people are camped at the property from today’s round and we couldn’t have them stay there because if the forecast is accurate, they could get stuck in there for three or more days.

“It’s just too risky.”

This year’s Yamaha AORC has suffered extensive bad luck in the weather department: with three of 12 rounds having to be cancelled due to poor weather.

Rounds three and four, scheduled for Conondale (QLD) on May 1st and 2nd, also had to be called off.

“Hopefully we have much better luck for the remaining rounds of this championship,” Mrs Hore said.

Presentation for today’s event will be held at the next Yamaha AORC.

The next stop for the championship will be the Gold Rush on July 10th and 11th at Wedderburn (VIC). The the Barossa Bar Banger on August 7th and 8th at Kapunda (Barossa Valley, SA) and the finale, the Boxing Roo Yamaha AORC, September 4th and 5th at (location TBA).

The Yamaha AORC includes the following Australian Championship classes: GP Industries E1, Yamaha E2, Pirelli E3, RK Chains Veteran’s, Master’s, Motul Women’s and Junior Class 1,2,3,4 & 5 (see supp reg’s for more info), as well as the following support classes: Polisport Expert E1, Endura Expert E2/E3, Clubman E1, Clubman E2/3 and Clubman Veteran’s.
