Round two of the Sunshine State Motocross Series was held at Tivoli Raceway, just west of Brisbane with the Queensland Yamaha Junior Development Team continuing to build on the moment from the opening round taking two class wins, a second and a third for the round.
Overnight rain on Friday left the track damp and difficult for the junior competitors but the mud soon cleared for good conditions and a fast track. The QYJDT boys again put their best foot forward and every rider landed on the podium.

He is back! Just over four months since a serious injury, Shaun Redhead (Pro Griffin Yamaha) returned to the race track and did what he does best, win races. He gained his medical clearance ten days prior to the event and returned to racing as fast as possible. He dominated proceedings in the 15 years Lites division with a 1-1-1 display of controlled and smooth racing.
“Today wasn't about winning races but getting through the day safely and getting back into the swing of things. To win was a bonus, but it feels good to be back on the track and racing again,” Redhead offered.

Joel Dinsdale (Bullet Bikes) came out swinging in round two and again went to battle with team mate Scott Mann for the honours in the 12 to 13 years Mini Lites class. This time Dinsdale came out on top with a 1-1-3 score and again shows his learning curve as a racer is a steep one. This class has become a Yamaha benefit with Dinsdale and Mann dominating proceedings and Damien Harrison (Northstar Yamaha) rounding out the podium with third overall on the day.
“My starts were good today and I felt I had good speed in all the races. The last one was a little crazy with Scotty crashing then I crashed but we still managed to get the job done,” said the amped up youngster.
Another race and another podium finish for Scott Mann (Jimboomba Motorcycles). His 2-2-2 results in the three races locked up second overall in another consistent and solid days racing in the 12 o 13 years Mini Lites. Mann was leading the last event until a fall out the back dropped him back a spot.
“It wasn't the perfect weekend for me, but good enough to get second and not give away too many points. I was angry at myself for crashing in the last moto, so I will do what I can do make sure that doesn't happen again,” Mann fumed.
More spirited racing for the teams newest member, Wilson Todd (Steve Hunts Motorcycles) as he rounded out the day in third place in the hotly contested 9 to 11years Mini Lites. Todd lead the opening race in moto one until getting tangled up with a lapper, had a heft fall in moto two, then charged on in moto three to finish up with a 2-3-2 moto score and third overall.
“I tried hard all day today, but never got the race wins. I put myself in good positons but never won. But for a tough day, it still worked out pretty good and third is ok.”
The team gathers again in two weeks at the sandy and whooped out Hervey Bay track for round three of the series. All the guys like the circuit and are looking to continue their awesome start to the 2009 season.
