Reigning World/AMA Supercross Champion Chad Reed is striving to continue his run of podium placings at Georgia this weekend when the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship Series hits America’s East Coast for the first time this year.
The Rockstar Suzuki Makita rider, who is the only competitor to finish on the podium at all seven rounds of the series is looking forward to making the switch to the East Coast where he hopes to continue his perfect record for podium finishes in 2009.
“While I have enjoyed all the previous rounds of the series, I definitely prefer racing on the East Coast as I get to live at my own house and overall I just prefer the tracks, stadiums and dirt that we have over here,” said Reed, who is currently tied for first place in the championship with rival James Stewart.
“So far I’ve finished on the podium at each race for 2009 and lets hope that as the series switches to the East Coast I can switch it around and move up to the top step of the podium.”
With seven out of the 17 round Monster Energy AMA Supercross already contested Reed is the first to note that there is still a long way to go until the winner of the series is decided.
“We haven’t even reached the halfway point of the series and with the point score so close, I can assure you I haven’t given up and won’t give up yet. I’ve never claimed successive AMA titles and this year I feel that feat is one which is well within reach,” Reed added.
“Over the first few rounds I haven’t rode as well as I would have liked and I’ve had a few really tough weekends. As a result we’ve worked on a few things and now I believe I am on top of it.”
This weekend’s eighth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship Series will be held at Atlanta’s Georgia Stadium on Saturday 21 February.
