Byron Bay dirt bike racer, Tom McCormack, rode to his second Pro Class win of his career at the weekend at the opening rounds of the NSW Enduro Championship held at Dungog.

This season is the first for McCormack, 17, in the pro ranks after rising to the top of the junior classes.

The Yamaha Pro Motorcycles Queensland Enduro Team rider nabbed the top podium spot in the Pro E1 Class at round one of the event - dubbed the ‘Forest 300’ - on Saturday and second in round two on Sunday.

“I’m planning on doing the whole series, so hopefully I’ll be able to win the title in the E1 Class,” McCormack said.

“The race on the weekend was really good, I had fun all weekend. There was a good atmosphere, the tracks were great, the event was really well set up.

“I started off pretty strong, winning the first two tests on Saturday.

“On Saturday night we had a motocross under lights, all the pro classes raced together and I was the first E1 rider across the finish line in both moto’s, so I made up a bit of time there.

“On Sunday I had one bad test, but rode well in all the others, so all-in-all was happy with my result.

“There were some good riders in my class, Damian Smith and I had some pretty good battles, it was great racing him, he’s a good bloke.

“The terrain at Dungog was dusty, but the club did a great job with the tests, it was a really good event.

“My YZ250F went great all weekend, it’s a fantastic bike, I love riding it.

“It’s the best bike I’ve ever ridden and I can’t wait to get back on it at the Yamaha Sprint Cross-Country race this Sunday at Kyogle.

“The format on Sunday is mass-start, 30-minute races. I like that style of event and the terrain down at Kyogle is good, so it should be a good race.”

McCormack has had a strong 2010 season so far, kicking it off with podium finishes in his first two pro races earlier in the year and a win in the E1 Class at the opening round of the NSW Sprint Championship.

Tom’s next race will be the second round of the Yamaha Sprint Cross-Country Series being held at Kyogle (Northern NSW) on Sunday. For more info go to www.qldenduro.com

Tom’s next national competition will be rounds five and six of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) being held at Moruya (NSW South Coast) on May 29th and 30th. For more info go to www.aorcracing.com

Tom McCormack is the youngest rider to go straight to the pro class in Queensland enduro racing. He is current Yamaha Junior Queensland Enduro Champion, Yamaha SEQ Enduro Series winner and is ranked second in the country for Junior Off-Road racers.

Tom’s ultimate goal is to make the sport he loves his profession and become the fastest in Australia.
